How to look up a Florida inspector's license on DBPR

Not insurance advice. General information only. Your insurer or agent decides what it needs.

Florida home inspectors are licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Contractors, building code inspectors, engineers and architects can also sign some insurance forms. Citizens says a form may not be accepted if the professional's Florida license "is not active or cannot be verified."

Steps

  1. Go to the DBPR license search: myfloridalicense.com/wl11.asp.
  2. Choose Search by License Number if the inspector gives you one (home inspector numbers start with HI, for example HI12345). Otherwise choose Search by Name and enter the inspector's last and first name. Company names often don't return results, because home inspector licenses are issued to people.
  3. Check the License Type (e.g., Home Inspector, Certified General/Building/Residential Contractor) and the Status: you want "Current, Active".
  4. Check the name matches the person coming to your home, and look at the expiration date.

What our listings show

Each listing has a badge: Verified (we matched a named inspector or the license number shown on the site to an active DBPR record), See note (partial match; details in the card) or Not verified (we could not match a record; this does not mean the business is unlicensed).
